Denim

Choosing the right size denim can be a challenge. The following shows how Blue Owl measures denim and pants. The best way to figure your size is to measure a denim that you already own that fits you well. Measure your denim using the following example as a guide. If you have further questions about measuring or figuring out your size, e-mail us and we will help you make the right decision.

Waist

Pull the denim at the waist line tight so the front and rear of the waist band line up as close as possible. Place your tape measure at one edge of the waist band while holding the denim and tape measure tight. Measure straight across the waist band.  Multiply this number by 2.

Your measurement should start at the edge of the waist band.

Rise

Place the end of your tape measure at the crotch seam. Hold the denim and tape measure tight. Measure to the top of the waist line.

Your measurement should start here.

Thigh

Place the end of your tape measure at the crotch seam, the same location as for the rise measurement. Hold the denim and tape measure tight, and measure across the leg at a 90 degree angle.

Knee

There are two steps to measuring the knee. Start by measuring 13" down the inseam of the leg, beginning crotch seam, same as the rise and thigh measurements.

After measuring 13" down the inseam, measure straight across the knee.

Inseam

Pull the leg out and make sure it is laying flat. Starting from the crotch seam again, measure straight to the leg opening.

Leg Opening

Measure straight across the leg opening. Make sure there are no kinks or folds in the denim.

Jackets/Shirts/Sweaters

It can be hard to figure out what size to purchase, especially when it comes to a Japanese brand! Here is Blue Owl's standard way of measuring all tops. We recommend that you measure your own shirt or jacket that fits you well, following this measuring guide. Then, you compare the measurements to ours. If you need assistance, please send us an e-mail, and we can help you make the right sizing decision.

Shoulders

Button or zip the garment closed and lay it flat. Measure straight across the shoulders from seam to seam at the very top.

Chest

Lift the arms and pull the fabric tight across the chest. Measure straight across the chest from seam to seam. Multiply this measurement by two to get the final chest measurement.

Pull sleeve out and lay flat. Measure from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve. If there is no seam (such as on raglan sleeve), do your best to estimate the edge of the shoulder.

Length

Lay the garment flat exposing the back side. Measure from the collar seam to the very bottom of the garment.

Belts

Choosing a belt can be challenging but shouldn't be. The below is how Blue Owl measures belts. The best way for you to know your size is to grab a belt you already own that fits you well and measure it. You can then compare that measurement to ours. If you have questions, e-mail us, and we will be happy to help you make the right choice.

Length

Measure the full length of the belt, from where the leather will rest in the buckle to the edge.

Imagine yourself wearing the belt and visually determine where the leather sits within the belt buckle. This is the point where you want to start measuring. On this buckle, we measure about 1/4" from the front edge of the buckle, as this is where the leather would rest in the buckle

Determine which hole you want to use. This will ultimately determine which size you want. We recommend wearing the belt in one of the middle 3 holes. The leather will will stretch with wear; so to be safe, choosing the 3rd or 4th hole would be ideal.

Boots/Shoes

Buying boots and shoes online has always been a risky proposition. Not only can the same size fit differently between brands, it can differ between models of the same brand. Blue Owl has invented a flawless fitting guide to ensure you will find a shoe that will fit. By measuring your foot and comparing it against our boot measurements, we can be more accurate than any other shoe sizing guide on the net. As always, if you have any questions, e-mail us and we'll be happy to help.

Outsole

Measure along the whole length of the boot, from the tip of the outsole to the back of the heel. This measurement is helpful in determining the silhouette and general look of the boot

Insole

Place the end of the measuring tape at the tip of the toebox, then measure to the back of the heel. This measurement is used to compare against foot measurements for choosing the correct size.

Width

The width of the shoe is measured from above across the widest part of boot's vamp. This measurement is not exact, as we cannot measure the inside of the boot, but is useful for determining the general width of the boot for sizing purposes

Height

The height of the boot is measured along the side. This measurement can show you how high it will sit on the ankle, and help determine the silhouette of the boot when worn.

Measuring your foot

Place the tip of the at the back of your heel and measure to the tip of your big toe along the bottom of your foot. Compare this to the insole measurement of the boot, adding about .5" to your foot measurement to find the perfect fit. Example: A foot measuring 11" will fit a size 10 in Wolverine and a size 10.5 in Oak Street.

The only caveat to this process is foot width. Measure across the widest part of the ball of your foot. Compare this to the width we have measured, and if your foot is significantly wider than the size you think you need based on foot length, please contact us to determine what size will be best for you.
